Background

The School of Medical Sciences, University of Science Malaysia (USM) is one of the leading medical schools in Malaysia. Established in 1979, USM currently has 1,000 undergraduate student and over 500 post-graduate students.

Recently the School of Medical Sciences achieved international recognition in several fields of specialization, notably on microvascular surgery, limb salvage surgeries in orthopaedic tumors, maxillofacial surgery, neurosurgery, tissue banking and bio-technology research.

NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF MALAYSIA (UKM)

TISSUE ENGINEERING CENTRE (TEC)

Background

Tissue Engineering Centre (TEC) was established in1999, and is recognised by the Ministry of Education, Malaysia as a centre of excellence in research. TEC is currently the reference centre for tissue engineering and regenerative research in Malaysia.

TEC's research is undertaken in it's certified Good Manufacturer Practices (cGMP) facilities. TEC and Ming Medical conduct various human clinical trials including:

  • Stem Cell-Based-Human Cornea Transplant
  • Stem Cell Treatment for Degenerative Disease and Diabetes

TEC and Ming Medical are pioneers in human cell therapy culture and research.

SCHOOL OF PHARMACY

Background

Taylor's University (Taylor's) was founded in 1969. It is a prestigious and well known academic institution in Malaysia. Taylor.s focuses on several flagship programmes in various medical disciplines including:

  • Treatment Design and Delivery
  • Molecular Pharmacology
  • Cancer Innovation
  • Experimental Medicine

Taylor's and Ming Medical are jointly developing allogenic induced beta cells (islets of Lanerhans) to treat Diabetes, eliminating the need for human donor transplantation.

These clinical cell development are conducted in Taylor.s state-of-the-art laboratories and facilities.

FACULTY OF VETERINARY MEDICINE

Background

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FPV) was established in 1973 to provide comprehensive education and research activities in veterinary sciences. With Ming Medical, FPV, UPM will undertake animal trials, pre-clinical trial, and research activities. The undertaking of the preclinical trial with university veterinary hospital, enables the team to achieve world class medical research.

UPM and MING is currently using various animal model in biomedical research and pre-clinical application, in the field of re-generative medicine (Stem Cell research) and cell-based immunotherapy (Natural Killer Cell research).

NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF DIABETES AND METABOLIC DISORDER (NIDIMED)

Background

National Institute of Diabetes and Metabolic Disorder was established in 2007 for diabetes prevention and metabolic disorders has treatment under the Minister of Health Vietnam. The institute is headed by Dr Ta Van Binh, Director of the Endocrinology Hospital, with the aim to study ways to prevent diabetes and other metabolic disorders, using advanced technology.
